Repair PDF

Best-effort recovery of damaged PDFs.

Drop your PDF here

or click to browse · Files stay private

Repairing a PDF rebuilds the internal structure of a file that will not open or shows as damaged. Most corruption is a broken cross-reference index rather than lost content, so rebuilding that index often restores a document whose pages were intact all along.

Repair runs in your browser and produces a new copy, leaving your original untouched. It cannot recover data that is genuinely missing, such as a half-downloaded file. See our repair guide for what to expect.

How to Use

Upload the damaged PDF

Drop the file onto the upload zone or click to browse.

Run repair

Click Repair PDF — PDFelly first tries to reload the document structure, then extracts readable pages as a fallback.

Download

Download the repaired PDF. Note that some content may not be recoverable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is recovery guaranteed?

No — recovery depends on how severely the file is damaged. Files with corrupted page streams may partially recover. Completely overwritten files cannot be repaired.

What repair methods does PDFelly use?

First, the tool attempts to parse and re-save the document. If that fails, it renders each visible page to a canvas and embeds them as images in a new PDF.

Will embedded images and graphics be preserved?

If the fallback image-based repair is used, all visible content is preserved as a rasterized image, but text is no longer selectable.
