The honest version
We will not pretend we collect nothing — that would be dishonest. To keep PDFelly 100% free we use Google Analytics (aggregate usage) and Google AdSense (the ads). Both run in consent‑denied mode by default. Google may set a single functional cookie prior to consent for fraud prevention and abuse detection — this is not an ad or analytics cookie and cannot be used to profile you. No ad‑personalisation or analytics cookies are set until you explicitly accept.
You can withdraw consent anytime via Privacy choices, opt out of analytics with the Google Analytics Opt‑out add‑on, and manage ad personalisation at Google Ad Settings. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
Your documents: absolute privacy
Every tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your PDF and image files are read into memory on your own device and never transmitted to any server — ours or anyone else's. When you close the tab, the file data is gone. You can verify this yourself on the Privacy Policy page using the live network monitor.
What we actually collect
- Nothing about your files. No content, names, or metadata from documents you process.
- Analytics (only if you accept): anonymous, aggregate usage — which tools are popular, browser type, broad country‑level geography.
- Advertising (only if you accept): Google AdSense may use cookies to show relevant ads, subject to your choice.
- Local preferences: your dark‑mode and recently‑used‑tools settings are stored only in your browser's
localStorageand never leave your device.
How we honour international law
- EU / EEA (GDPR): consent is requested before any analytics or advertising cookies via Google Consent Mode v2, default denied. Rejecting is as easy as accepting.
- UK (UK‑GDPR & PECR): same consent‑first approach for all non‑essential cookies.
- USA (CPRA / state laws): we honour the Global Privacy Control browser signal as a valid opt‑out of sale/sharing; ad personalisation is disabled automatically when that signal is present.
- Withdrawal: the “Privacy choices” link in the footer of every page reopens your settings at any time.
